Two of the most common chiropractic techniques explained. Learn when each is used, what you will feel during treatment, and how they work together.
Chiropractic care encompasses a wide range of techniques, and understanding the difference between spinal adjustments and soft tissue therapy helps you get more out of every appointment. The two approaches are complementary — and most patients benefit from both.
A spinal adjustment (also called spinal manipulation) involves your provider applying a precise, controlled force to a specific spinal joint to restore proper motion and alignment. You may hear a 'pop' — that is simply the release of gas from within the joint capsule. Adjustments are safe, effective, and typically feel immediately relieving.
Soft tissue therapy, on the other hand, addresses the muscles, tendons, ligaments, and fascia surrounding those joints. Techniques like Active Release Technique (ART), Graston, and myofascial release break down scar tissue, improve circulation, and restore normal tissue mobility. These are particularly effective for chronic tightness, overuse injuries, and post-surgical scar tissue.
At Peak Chiropractic, your provider will determine the right combination of approaches based on your specific presentation. First-time patients often receive both during their initial visit. The result is a more complete resolution of the root problem — not just temporary symptom relief.
